Takamaka lands in Australia

Seychelles rum brand Takamaka will launch in Australia next year after partnering with Sydney-based distributor Dispatch Imports.

The partnership with Dispatch is part of Takamaka’s ambitious expansion plan

The rum brand will make its Australian debut in spring 2025, starting in South Wales and Victoria, with plans to launch nationwide later in the year.

Takamaka joins the likes of Compass Box Scotch Whisky and Muyu liqueurs in the Dispatch Imports portfolio.

Aaron Shuttleworth, director of Dispatch Imports, commented: “We are thrilled to be working with Takamaka as one of the first brands we’re representing under the Dispatch label. Takamaka has been making waves globally for a couple of years now, and their approach aligns closely with our own: great quality products that want to have fun and shake up a tired category, underpinned by strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) credentials.

“We see instant homes in cocktail lists for the Seychelles Series, and the Le Clos Series competes with the best rums in the world on the back bar. We’re excited to showcase Takamaka, the Trois Freres Distillery, and their beautiful home, the Seychelles, to bartenders and consumers alike.”

The news comes as Takamaka confirms it is now available across four continents, in more than 50 markets, as part of its continued global expansion plan.

In 2023, the rum brand expanded into 17 new markets, including its first foray into Asia through partnerships with Bring the Rocks and La Maison du Whisky.

This year, the company launched its range in Germany, Sweden and Luxembourg, and teamed up with drinks agency Speciality Brands in the UK market.

Bernard d’Offay, co-founder of Takamaka, said: “For us as a business and me personally, I am so excited to be launching in Australia. Not only is it a place I fell in love with almost 20 years ago, but it’s a market in which I believe Takamaka will thrive.

“While a slightly bigger island than our own, Seychelles, there is so much that ties our two countries together. It’s taken a while but to have found the right partners, our launch with Dispatch fills me with enthusiasm and can’t wait to get started.”

Takamaka was established in 2002 by brothers Richard and Bernard d’Offay.

At The Spirits Business Awards 2024, Takamaka’s Steven Rioux was awarded Blender of the Year.
