Mojito inspires Tarquin’s limited edition gin

Cornish producer Tarquin’s Gin has unveiled its latest creation, which is inspired by the classic Mojito combination of lime and mint.

The limited edition gin is a collaboration between master distiller Tarquin Leadbetter and seventh-generation farmer Ross Geach of Padstow Kitchen Garden, located four miles from the Southwestern Distillery.

It was inspired by the pair’s long-time friendship, Cornish craftsmanship, and the Mojito cocktail.

According to CGA Strategy data from 2023, the Mojito is the third most popular cocktail in the UK. Unlike the classic serve, which is made with rum, Tarquin’s combines lime and mint with its gin.

Leadbetter, who is also the founder of Tarquin’s Gin and Southwestern Distillery, explained: “Ross and I have been mates for years – we’re practically neighbours. This is our Cornish tribute to the Mojito, made with mint grown right here on our doorstep. Best enjoyed with good company on a warm summer’s evening.”

For Gearch, growing mint for Tarquin’s felt like the most natural thing in the world, as a “proof that the best things come from good friendships and good soil.”

Bottled at 38% ABV, Tarquin’s Mojito Inspired Mint & Lime Gin offers aromas of fresh lime, crushed mint, and citrus. On the palate, juniper notes are joined by crisp lime and zesty, lingering mint.

It is available at Tarquin’s shops across Cornwall and Devon, as well as on the brand’s website for pre-orders, with deliveries starting 16 July.

The limited release Mojito Gin retails for £39.95 (US$53) per 700ml bottle.

Leadbetter added: “We’ve found limited editions like this create real energy – they’re the ones people talk about, queue for, and remember.

“There’s an urgency and excitement around a one-off release, and that translates directly into sales, press interest, and new customers finding us for the first time.”

The new release comes just days after World Mojito Day, celebrated on 11 July.

Earlier this year, Tarquin’s Gin released two summer editions chosen through a public vote: Chilli Mango and Cornish Apple & Elderflower.
