Chairman’s Reserve secures Tesco listing
Spirits distributor Mangrove Global has secured a Tesco listing in the UK for Saint Lucian rum brand Chairman’s Reserve.
Rum enthusiasts will now be able to purchase Chairman’s Reserve Original in 449 Tesco stores across the UK.
The new listing follows the introduction of the brand’s spiced variety in 139 Waitrose stores.
Nick Gillett, managing director at Mangrove Global, commented: “This is an exciting development for Chairman’s Reserve. Not only is it an exceptional liquid, but it carries all the Caribbean provenance of being distilled on Saint Lucia – a characteristic that is now protected thanks to recently securing a Protected Geographical Indication (GI).
“The spirit is already well-loved by the on-trade for these precise characteristics, and with this latest listing will now be available to the masses, at an affordable price point.”
Chairman’s Reserve, which was given a brand redesign last October, is part of the Spiribam portfolio of Caribbean rums, produced at St Lucia’s only distillery in the Roseau Valley on the island’s western side.
The Original rum is a delightful blend of pot and column still rums, and can be enjoyed neat or used as a base spirit for rum cocktails.
Rum has experienced ‘significant’ growth over the last decade, with research from IWSR Drinks Market Analysis forecasting an additional 8% increase in the UK for super-premium-and-above rums between 2022 and 2027.
According to insights from CGA Strategy, dark rum, which saw a 5% rise in value, particularly in the UK’s on-trade sector, is a major contributor to this growth.
The new listing marks a series of wins within the grocery channel for Mangrove Global, which, in the last two years, has secured several new listings with Waitrose and Tesco, including Bearface Canadian whisky, Molinari Sambuca, Vivir, Chairman’s Reserve Spiced Rum, and Indri Indian whisky.
In addition to the launch of Chairman’s Reserve Rum at Tesco, Stauning Høst Danish whisky is now available in 196 Tesco locations. At the same time, the existing Indri Trini listing will expand its availability to 151 stores.
