Stauning expands core range

Danish producer Stauning has extended its core whisky range with Høst, which aims to introduce drinkers to the brand’s portfolio.

Stauning
Høst has an ABV of 40.5% and retails for £45 (US$56)

Meaning ‘harvest’ in Danish, the whisky is a marriage of rye and single malt and was distilled as a homage to the farmland that surrounds the distillery on Denmark’s west coast.

It also celebrates the cycle of the growth from the new season, which provides the grains essential to creating the brand’s whiskies.

The whisky was aged in first-fill Bourbon and heavily charred new American white oak casks, before being finished in first-fill Port barrique casks.

Alex Munch, a co-founder of Stauning, said: “Høst is an important launch for the continued growth of our distillery. As our new initial introduction to the Stauning style, it encompasses the rye-forward Danish design that has made us famous.

“By championing the terroir of our raw materials, we’re able to create a profile that adds a new dimension to our range, perfect for new drinkers and existing fans alike.”

According to the brand, Høst is a ‘fruit-forward spirit with floral undertones’.

The liquid brings vanilla, beeswax and citrus to the nose, meadow honey, toffee, apple, and red berries on the palate, and a finish that features cinnamon, oak and subtle spice.

Stauning uses grains sourced from nearby fields to make its whisky – taken ‘just a few miles’ from the distillery, with each grain floor-malted in-house.

Sitting at 40.5% ABV, it is available to buy on Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange and Selfridges for £45 (US$56).

The Diageo-backed brand has also recently rolled out its first first global cocktail competition, Stauning Drinks Kollektive, with submissions open until 4 May.
