Top 10 ready-to-drink Margaritas

For National Margarita Day tomorrow (22 February), we’ve rounded up the most convenient way for you to celebrate – with ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails.

Our list features both canned and bottled Margaritas

Typically made with Tequila, triple sec and lime juice – plus a few extra things for the creative types – most will say the Margarita isn’t the most difficult cocktail in the world to make. But in any event, it still takes time and effort; for when you’re busy or tired, RTDs are here to help.

Many brands have released RTD versions of Margaritas for your on-the-go consumption, which in our view offer just as much value and quality as they do convenience. We’ve rounded up 10 of the very best.

Delola

Margarita

Price: US$19.99 for a 750ml bottle; US$10.99 for 375ml

Jennifer Lopez’s ready-to-drink Margarita is a good option for those watching their calories – it has only 125, and an ABV of 12.5%.

And while we’d never suggest alcohol as a healthy choice, Delola is made with natural botanicals, is gluten-free and claims to have less sugar and fewer calories than its traditional cocktail counterparts.

Taste-wise, the singer herself says it’s “fresh and delicious”.

Moth

Moth margarita

Price: £4 for one 125ml can (US$5); £26 (US$32) for pack of eight

Anyone who spots you in a public place with one of these in hand will know you’re a canned Margarita drinker of fine taste. Moth has taken off in the UK, where it’s the fastest-growing RTD brand, and it’s largely down to this 14.9% ABV expression.

It’s made with Enemigo Tequila, and its premium qualities saw it win a Gold Medal at 2023 RTD Masters.

Whitebox

Margarita

Price: £5.80 (US$7) for one 100ml can; £20 (US$25) for a four-can pack

The big bold chilli printed on the blue can says it all really – this one is a spicy number and it’s not afraid to show it.

Canned at 20.5% ABV, it packs both a punch and a kick. The cocktail is made by infusing Tequila with whole chillis – jalapeño, ancho and bell pepper – and coriander. Whitebox said the result is a ‘perfect balance of sour, sweet and fiery’.

For those who prefer it milder, Whitebox also does a classic, straight-up Marg (named the Squeezy’s Margarita), which is canned at 19% ABV and combines lime and triple sec with a hint of salt for a bar-quality serve.

Mirror Margarita

Mirror Margarita can

Price: £25 (US$31) for 500ml bottle

Could the Mirror Margarita be the fairest of them all? This one from Hacha’s Deano Moncrieffe went down so well it became its own standalone brand, after first starting life as a cocktail on the London agaveria’s menu.

The serve gets its name from its crystal-clear colour and is made with Cazcabel blanco Tequila blended with citrus oils and organic malic acid for a taste that’s perfectly balanced between sweet and sour.

It comes in all shapes and sizes – from 150ml cans (10% ABV) to 500ml bottles (14% ABV) – and the brand even recently debuted a non-alc version, made with Lewis Hamilton’s non-alcoholic agave ‘spirit’ Almave.

The Drinks Bureau

Spicy Margarita Drinks Bureau

Price: £15 (US$19) for a four-pack, £28 (US$35) for party box

Another one for those who live on the spicy side, rosy cheeks are all but guaranteed with The Drinks Bureau’s Spicy Margarita, which is canned at 10% ABV and made with Tequila, lime and agave syrup, with chilli to dial up the heat.

This Spicy Margarita won Taster Master at last year’s Pre-Mixed, RTD & Hard Seltzer Masters: the top accolade an RTD can win at the competition. As one judge gushed: “Agave comes through with lime and a little bit of savoury spice. Accessible with nice complexity, just a touch of smoke, but still bright and fresh.”

The RTD also comes in a game-changing party box, which includes 10 serves on tap. Pour away for a day of silliness under the sun in the park – you can’t get much better.

Pimentae

Margarita

Price: £4.30 (US$5) for 125ml can, £29 (US$36) for 500ml bottle

Eye-catching packaging goes a long way and Pimentae reels you in with its tropical-printed cans, but there is substance to go with its style – the brand’s classic Tommy’s Margarita brings together El Tequileño with zesty lime and a sweet touch of agave.

The brand was founded in 2021 by Alice Parmiter and Wynter Karo, who are looking to change the ways consumers view and enjoy Tequila. They do a few other Tequila-based serves, if you don’t mind committing sacrilege on National Margarita Day.

Tom Savano

Tom Savano Hot Honey

Price: £25 (US$31) for a six-pack

In November 2022, travel-inspired RTD brand Tom Savano moved into canned cocktails and the world was all the better for it, we’d say. The big seller was, of course, the Margarita – but not any old Margarita: a Hot Honey Margarita. Canned at 15%, this beauty is made with Ocho Tequila, lime juice, jalapeño-infused hot honey and sea salt.

The brand also does a Tommy’s Margarita for those who’d rather stick to the familiar, as well as bottled variants, including a Single Estate Reposado Margarita and a Spicy Mezcal Margarita.

Curatif

Margarita

Price: AU$45 (US$29) for a four-pack

Be the envy of your next train ride with Aussie brand Curatif’s moreish take on a Tommy’s, which pairs Tequila Tromba Blanco with Australian lime juice and agave nectar, along with Bhut Jolokia (ghost pepper, imported from India), Trinidad Scorpion, California Reaper, and habanero.

Canned at 18.5% ABV, the spice level finds the right spot without making it feel as though your face is on fire, thanks to what the team say took ‘many months of palate-challenging testing’.

The brand has also just released a pineapple version of the serve for an added touch of sweetness.

Black Lines

Black Lines

Price: £24 (US$30) for 500ml bottle containing five serves

Black Lines never misses with its bottled cocktails (see its Negroni), and its Tommy’s Margarita is no different.

Combining Los Arcos Tequila, agave, lime and chilli, the serve has all the hallmarks of what you get in a nice bar, but with the added bonus of being able to enjoy it in peace, on the sofa and in front of the TV.

The bottle features a label designed by Brooklyn-based illustrator Spencer Gabor and is worth keeping around for after – perhaps repurposed as a flower vase.

1800 Tequila

Price: US$21.99 per 1.75 litre bottle

When you’ve promised a big group of people coming over that you’re making Margaritas, and great ones at that – here’s your saviour. The ready-to-pour Ultimate Margarita, sitting at 9.95% ABV, is made with 1800’s premium Tequila, which is blended with the flavour of fresh fruit and extract of lime for a ‘crisp bite’ and ‘tangy finish’.

Act like you’ve come up with your own twist by grabbing one of 1800’s flavoured Margaritas, such as the strawberry one pictured above – no one has to know.
