The bar is based in The Landmark in the Central district, and is styled as a doctor’s office, with fictional character Dr Robben Fern at the helm. It opened in 2017.

Dr Fern’s Gin Parlour is part of the Ming Fat House group, which includes other Hong Kong food and beverage concepts led by fictional characters: Mrs Pound of her eponymous bar, and Frank Minza of Frank’s Library and Foxglove.

Posting on Instagram, the fictional Dr Fern said: “I opened my doors in 2017 with the mission to showcase botanicals in their truest form: a magnificent gin and tonic.

“Over the years, I finetuned my research with the assistance of many doctors, each adorning the white coat with the purpose of finding cures to the wide array of ailments of my patients.

“But what I discovered along the way was friendship, celebrations, and pure joy was always the best medicine.

“I’m sad to announce that my office will be closing on 25 January after eight years in Landmark.”

To celebrate the bar’s run, previous bartenders will be invited back for takeovers, with Pauline Jam returning on 18 January and Gerry Olino on 24 January.

Lio Yao of the Union Trading Company will also take over the bar on 16 January.

The bar is the second high-profile bar in Asia to close in recent months, with Singapore’s Tippling Club closing on New Year’s Eve.
