The distillery, whose portfolio includes Kansas City Whiskey and Midwestern Dry Gin, is now available in Nova Scotia.

Ryan Maybee, co-founder, said: “The Canadian market has long been known for its appreciation of premium spirits, and we are excited to share our passion for distillation with our neighbours to the north.

“We look forward to building awareness of our brand and believe that we will find a warm welcome in Canada.”

J Rieger & Co was established in 1887 in Kansas City’s West Bottoms Livestock Exchange district. It was forced to close in 1919 due to Prohibition.

In 2014, Maybee and Andy Rieger, the great-great-grandson of original founder Jacob Rieger, relaunched the brand.

Today, the company is located in the Electric Park area of Kansas City. It also produces Caffe Amaro and Premium Wheat Vodka, which will also now be available in Nova Scotia.

In more Canada-related news, earlier this month, Taiwanese whisky producer Kavalan launched a trio of whiskies in Ontario after securing a deal with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO).

Mezcal brand Desolas also eyed up the Canadian market earlier this month, and made its first foray into the country through a distribution agreement with Renaissance Wine Merchants.
