Kavalan launches three whiskies in Ontario

A trio of Kavalan whiskies are now available in Ontario after the Taiwanese brand struck a deal with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO).

The three Taiwanese whiskies that will be available in Ontario are: Kavalan Solist Ex-Bourbon Cask, Kavalan Solist Oloroso Sherry Cask; and Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique.

Lawrence Schoen, Truth Malters president, said: “It’s our intention to share with Canada one of the world’s leading countries for whisky consumption, some of the highest-quality whiskies from the world’s top distillers.

“After trying the Kavalan Classic in 2009, I immediately knew it was something special and was hooked.

“I couldn’t wait to see what the next release would be.”

Schoen said he started his company, Truth Malters, due to his ‘fascination’ with the Taiwanese whisky brand.

He has also created a group, called ‘KavaFan’, with likeminded enthusiasts around the world.

Various Kavalan whiskies are already available throughout Canada.

Schoen also noted demand for cask strength whiskies in Canada, and Kavalan’s ability to tap into this trend.

The Taiwanese brand experienced a 169% sales leap in South Korea last year, driven by soaring demand in travel retail.

Furthermore, the brand collected a number of medals in The World Whisky Masters 2023 blind-tasting competition.

The brand also featured in a recent compilation of 10 award-winning whiskies.
