Hernö Slow Sloe Gin to launch

Swedish distillery Hernö has created a gin matured in juniper casks: Hernö Slow Sloe Gin.

Only 1,066 500ml bottles of the sloe gin have been made

The new bottling will launch in Sweden on 25 January.

The gin was matured for four months with ripe sloe berries, before being aged for another four months in 39.25-litre juniper wood casks.

Magnus Ernstsson, distiller at Hernö Gin, said: “I wanted to try to mature Hernö Sloe Gin in juniper casks that have been used to mature Hernö Juniper Cask Gin.

“The path from thought to action is never long at Hernö Gin, so the same day we stood in the distillery with juniper casks filled with our sloe gin.”

Tasting notes include floral aromas, juniper wood and sloe berries. On the palate, the gin is said to be fruity with ‘intense juniper and fresh juniper wood’.

On the finish, the fruitiness lingers with sweetness and a dry spice.

Only 1,066 500ml bottles of the slow gin have been made, which sits at 40% ABV.

In November last year, the Swedish brand secured a listing for its core range of products with UK-based online grocery business Ocado.

The brand also launched in Waitrose supermarkets in August last year.

In addition, Hernö launched a national Gin & Tonic Day in Sweden in April 2021 to coincide with the brand’s anniversary.

The brand is also building a gin hotel and cocktail bar in Stockholm, with an aim to turn the High Coast of Sweden into an international destination for gin lovers.
