Volcan De Mi Tierra makes UK debut

Moët Hennessy has released its Volcan De Mi Tierra Tequila range in the UK.

Volcan De Mi Tierra Tequila comes in two expressions: Blanco and Cristalino

Established in 2017, Volcan De Mi Tierra is a collaborative effort between Moët Hennessy and the Gallardo family.

The brand’s name is a nod to the history of the Tequila-making region; more than 200,000 years ago, a volcano, called Tequila, erupted and created the fertile soil of the Jalisco region in Mexico.

‘Volcan De Mi Tierra’ translates into English as ‘land of the volcano’. The brand’s distillery sits at the foot of the volcano.

The Tequila is made from Blue Weber agave and is built on an assemblage, using agave from the Lowlands and Highlands of Jalisco. The agave from each region is distilled separately before blending.

Julien Morel, CEO of Volcan De Mi Tierra, said: “After a successful introduction in the US and Mexico, we are thrilled to bring Volcan De Mi Tierra to new territories and demonstrate what Tequila is capable to offer in terms of taste, craft and experience.

“The UK market is particularly important for Volcan, where we see exponential interest for Tequila, from discerning consumers and influential trade.”

Volcan De Mi Tierra is available in two variants: Blanco and Cristalino.

The Blanco expression is said to have herbal and spicy aromas from the Lowlands, complemented by fruity and floral notes from the Highlands.

Bottled at 40% ABV, Volcan De Mi Tierra Blanco is priced at RRP £44 (US$60) per 700ml bottle.

Meanwhile, the Cristalino Tequila is an añejo expression, aged for four months with different cask finishes. The wood colour is then removed by natural filtration to give a clear liquid. Aromas include dried fruit, chocolate, vanilla and cooked agave.

With an ABV of 40%, Volcan De Mi Tierra Cristalino has an RRP of £62 (US$85) per 700ml.

The Tequilas are available to purchase from www.clos19.com, Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange and on-trade venues such as Kol, Callooh Callay, Coya, Disrepute and Little Bat.

Santiago Cortina Gallardo, Volcan De Mi Tierra COO and member of the founding Gallardo family, added: “Over the last five years, we have been working to expand our capabilities and capacity at Volcan’s very own distillery.

“Throughout this process we have continuously refined our craft and have ultimately produced world-class expressions. Volcan De Mi Tierra is not only a Tequila, it is the creation of a unique profile, enhancing all the nuances from each region. We look forward to further sharing Volcan De Mi Tierra with the world.”

In other Tequila news, in the two months since the launch of Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila, the brand’s sales have already exceeded the figures forecast for its first two years of business, according to the company’s president.

Plus, earlier this month, actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, co-founder of Teremana Tequila, revealed a branded tour bus that will travel the US handing out cocktails.
