Vinexpo HK cancels 2020 show but plans global tour

Trade fair Vinexpo has cancelled its 2020 show in Hong Kong due to the Covid-19 pandemic but has created a series of events to run from the end of this year into 2021 to help get businesses moving again.

Vinexpo Hong Kong will not take place until 2021

Vinexpo Hong Kong will now take place from 23 to 25 February 2021. The show had already been rescheduled from 26-28 May to 8-10 July this year, but organisers were forced to reconsider once again due to “border closures and health hazards caused by Covid-19”.

Vinexpo has since reviewed the calendar for its exhibitions and created a new business facility: The 2020-2021 Vinexpo Tour, which will include Vinexpo Hong Kong. Its aim is to provide a range of business platforms across Europe, Asia and the US.

The 2020-2021 Vinexpo Tour will include six events: Shanghai from 21-23 October 2020; Paris from 15-17 February 2021; Hong Kong from 23-25 February 2021; New York in early March 2021; Bordeaux in June 2021; and Shanghai in October 2021.

Vinexpo will be offering clients incisive, targeted offers to enable them to “maximise resources”, including turnkey solutions and multi-show packages, to name just a few options.

Promoting sales will be the common theme for all events, and Vinexpo will work to provide tiered solutions through an all-inclusive offer to boost return on investment.

Vinexpo stressed it would be maximising opportunities for trade professionals to meet, and is already exploring the possibility of creating other international business formats that could complement its current offerings.

Furthermore, Vinexpo said it is committed to supporting wine and spirits professionals by helping them to “jump-start” their business strategies through a new multi-region offer.

Rodolphe Lameyse, Vinexpo CEO, said: “Our customers will be looking for greater sales efficacy in the second half of 2020 and in 2021. Supporting them through complementary solutions with optimised participation costs is more than ever our priority.”

Vinexpo Hong Kong is one of multiple industry shows that have been forced to cancel their 2020 events due to the Covid-19 crisis. This week, London’s Imbibe Live announced its 2020 show would not go ahead as planned, while last month The Spirits Business sadly had to postpone its 2020 Wine & Spirits Show.

ProWein 2020 was also cancelled, as was the IAADFS Summit of the Americas.

Next week, Vinexpo New York will host a free online seminar for the wine and spirits industry, which will look at how companies are adapting their businesses during the covid-19 crisis.
