Wine & Spirits Show postponed over coronavirus

The Wine & Spirits Show, set to take place in London next month, has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Last year’s Wine & Spirits Show welcomed 1,500 visitors

Organised by The Spirits Business and the drinks business magazines, The Wine & Spirits Show was due to return to The Royal Horseguards Hotel in London on 3 and 4 April 2020.

The relaxed and informative show was attended by 1,500 wine and spirits lovers in 2019, as well as 350 members of the drinks trade.

In a statement, Union Press, publisher of the two magazines, said: “The decision was not an easy one but we believe with the current situation and the nature of the event, it would be in the best interest for our exhibitors and ticket holders to postpone the show to a later date.

“We thank you for your understanding and patience during this time”.

Those who have purchased tickets will be contacted and will be offered a refund. A new date is yet to be announced.

Several leading trade shows have been cancelled or postponed due to the covid-19 outbreak, which has been classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Trade shows delayed or cancelled include ProWein, TFWA Asia Pacific, Vinexpo Hong Kong and IAADFS Summit of the Americas.

Whisky festivals around the world have also been forced to cancel or postpone as a result of the disease.

The rapid spread of coronavirus around the world has brought about the closure of distillery visitor centres, and pubs and bars in Europe and the US.
