From the heart of the volcano: Flor de Caña

Premium rum brand Flor de Caña is marking its 135th anniversary with its oldest release to date.

Only 350 decanters are available

At 135 years old, Flor de Caña stands as one of the oldest companies in Central America – however, the brand is far from standing still. To celebrate its birthday this year, the family-owned rum distillery has released what is said to be its most extraordinary creation and oldest release to date: Flor de Caña 35 Year Rum.

The expression reflects the brand’s dedication to sustainability, excellence and quality, and a legacy nurtured by five generations since 1890 – three of whom were directly involved in the creation of this rum. The third generation was responsible for its distillation; the fourth for its preservation; and, finally, the fifth and current for its introduction to the world.

Flor de Caña 35 Year RumThe rum was aged naturally and sustainably for 35 years in American white oak barrels in the family’s private reserve, benefiting from Nicaragua’s unique volcanic terroir. The distillery’s base – resting between the majestic San Cristóbal volcano and the Pacific Ocean – is said to bestow a complex flavour profile and an exquisitely smooth finish on the rum.

Only 350 crystal decanters are in existence, each priced at US$4,000, and accompanied by an individually numbered certificate of authenticity. The decanters themselves are works of art, featuring a silhouette and sculpted ridges that replicate the lines of the San Cristóbal volcano.

The piece is crowned with a custom-crafted stopper made from obsidian rock of volcanic origin, and adorned with a leather necker, symbolising the brand’s commitment to sustainability. The finishing touch is a bespoke case made of walnut wood and engraved with illustrations of the lush flora found at the base of the volcano.

Smaller 100ml decanters will also be available for US$630, each presented in an elegant royal-green keepsake case.

“Flor de Caña 35 Year Rum embodies the essence, values, and artistry that have defined our brand for 135 years. More than a collector’s item, it is a rare treasure of time, crafted for those who value authenticity, legacy, and excellence,” said Tomás Cano, who has been Flor de Caña’s maestro ronero for almost four decades.

Born of earth, sea and flame, Flor de Caña 35 Year Rum is both a celebration of the past and a taste of the future.
