Callington Mill expands European footprint

Tasmanian distillery Callington Mill has partnered with four distributors in Europe to expand its reach in the region.

Callington Mill has formed partnerships with four distributors: Kirsch Import in Germany, L’Explorateur du Goût in France, Tudor House in Poland, and The World of Spirits in Belgium.

These new distribution agreements, which include the brand’s full range of Tasmanian single malts, are said to represent a ‘significant’ advancement for the growing international profile of the region.

Scott English, commercial and marketing director at Callington Mill, said: “We are optimistic as we move into premier export markets, about the future these international partnerships hold. Markets like France and Germany are known to be well-established and highly engaged in the whisky category, and getting a foothold in these countries provides us with a strong foundation to represent the best of Tasmanian whisky.

“We’ve ensured our core range, and soon, our full portfolio will be ready for large-scale distribution. It’s a considered move, aligning our inventory and production timelines with growing interest from European markets in Tasmanian whisky. We’re setting ourselves up for bigger goals.”

Callington Mill aims to achieve global recognition by formally launching its portfolio to the European market at Whisky Live in Paris and Whisky Live Germany this September and October.

Christoph Kirsch, owner of Kirsch Import, noted: “Tasmanian whisky has been one of the most dynamic emerging categories globally. We’re pleased to introduce a brand that brings both quality, provenance, and innovation to our offering. Kirsch Import already works with several independent and challenger distilleries; this addition allows us to strengthen our world whisky segment with a region that’s earning international recognition.”

To meet increasing international demand, Callington Mill is expanding its operations in Tasmania. This expansion will include its own cooperage, additional bonded warehouses, and a bottling plant.

In an effort to connect more closely with consumers, the distillery has also launched a new location in Hobart, building on the success of its flagship Oatlands Cellar Door.

Adèle Vittupier, marketing director of L’Explorateur du Goût, added: “We have a selective portfolio of whiskies, as our customers care about quality and the brand story. French consumers are increasingly open to discovering new whisky styles and exploring expressions from new regions.

“We think that Callington Mill represents the Tasmanian terroir succinctly and that our customer base will be excited to try a whisky from what is nearly the opposite side of the world.”

At The World Whisky Masters 2025, Callington Mill took home Master medals for its El Sol and Quagmire single malts, along with five Gold medals and four Silver.
