Hub to support UK on-trade staff through rising closures

Five hospitality bodies in the UK have united to create the CareerScope Hospitality Support Hub, a free website providing support in the face of rising business closures.

The initiative is a partnership between the Institute of Hospitality, Hospitality Action, the Savoy Educational Trust, Springboard and UKHospitality.

The hub provides practical and emotional support to people who lose their jobs or their businesses or face mental health struggles because of rising business closures.

The UK hospitality sector is currently bracing itself for the impact of the increase in employer National Insurance contributions and minimum wage, which was announced by the government in its autumn budget.

The hub will offer resources to help on-trade staff increase their employability skills, search for jobs, safeguard their mental wellbeing and receive financial and redundancy advice.

It can be accessed at: https://careerscope.uk.net/hospitality-support-hub/

Its founders said in a statement: “The CareerScope Hospitality Support Hub aims to leverage the resources, networks and expertise of our respective organisations to provide practical, accessible solutions that ensure the industry’s resilience and future success.

“Think of the Hospitality Support Hub as a 24/7 support centre for the industry’s workers. Our aim is to keep the hospitality workforce happy, healthy and work-ready.”

The CareerScope Support Hub is backed by UK hospitality leaders including Tom Kerridge, Clare Smyth, Michel Roux Jr and Fred Sirieix.

Fred Sirieix, maître d’hôtel and television personality, said: “Hospitality is about looking after people and now it’s time we look after our own. The CareerScope Hospitality Support Hub ensures that no one in our industry faces hardship alone. If you need help, this is the place to find it.”

So far this year, the UK on-trade has lost a number of venues, including London’s Silverleaf bar and Hacha Brixton, as well as three sites from the New World Trading Company.
