Kavalan creates two whiskies for Lotte Duty Free

Taiwanese Kavalan Distillery has released two Grand Reserve expressions, No.1 and No.2, exclusively for Lotte Duty Free.

The two exclusive Lotte Duty Free Kavalan Grand Reserve releases mark the distillery’s first new whiskies of 2025.

Both whiskies were initially aged in Vinho wine casks. The oak was treated using a ‘shave, toast, rechar’ (STR) technique.

Grand Reserve No.1 is further matured in Spanish Amontillado Sherry casks, creating apricot jam, dried berries, and caramel cream flavours.

The second edition, Grand Reserve No.2, has undergone additional ageing in Madeira and Portuguese ruby Port casks, resulting in a ‘rich, fruity profile and creaminess with notes of candied fruits’.

The bottle labels feature Yilan’s Snow Mountain range, the water source for Kavalan whisky.

Both expressions are offered at 40% ABV in one-litre bottles with a suggested retail price of US$127 each.

The new Grand Reserve series was launched in South Korea on 17 January and will later be available at Lotte Duty Free stores in Singapore, Guam and Australia.

Last month, Kavalan partnered with Salud Spirits to release a limited edition Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique single cask expression exclusively for the Austrian market.

Earlier this month, the Taiwanese whisky producer unveiled its annual limited edition gift sets, which honour its homeland’s native beauty.

At The Global Spirits Masters Competitions in 2024, Kavalan Podium was named the World Whisky Taste Master.
