Highland Park completes Valhalla Collection with Odin
By Melita KielyHighland Park is launching Odin, the fourth and final single malt Scotch whisky in its Norse-inspired Valhalla Collection.
Odin is the fourth and final whisky in Highland Park’s Valhalla CollectionThe 16-year-old expression follows the releases of Thor, Loki and Freya, and is named after the All-father of the gods and ruler of Asgard.
According to legend, Odin is the strongest of all the Norse gods, driven by an “unquenchable thirst for wisdom”, and lost an eye for a drink from the Well of Wisdom in order to gain “immeasurable knowledge and insight”.
“Odin, like its namesake, is an intense, powerful and complex whisky,” commented Gerry Tosh, global marketing manager. “It certainly lives up to the legend, a bold single malt higher in strength than Thor, Loki and Freya.
“In Odin, we have been able to add the final flourish to the Valhalla Collection, a stunning series of remarkable whiskies that offer affordability and exclusive collectability.
“Now that Odin has joined the ranks of the other gods in the Valhalla Collection, the first chapter in this series is complete.
“However, the Norse legends of old may still offer us future intrigues.”
Just 17,000 bottles of Odin will be released around the world, packaged in the same wooden frame as the other whiskies in the collection.
On the nose, Odin is said to give aromas of spice, toasted walnuts and smoke, leading to tastes of peat, dense oak, rich charred walnuts plums and fruit on the palate.
Bottled at 55.8% abv, Odin will be available to purchase from specialist whisky retailers, the Highland Park distillery and online from www.highlandpark.co.uk at an RRP of £180. Per 700ml bottle.
