Famous Grouse named official whisky of Commonwealth Games

The Famous Grouse has been named official whisky of the 2014 Commonwealth GamesThe agreement will see the brand’s parent company, Edrington, which is headquartered in Glasgow, join the event’s sponsorship group.
“As a company with a strong and long established presence in Scotland, we are pleased to have The Famous Grouse on board as our official whisky,” said David Grevemberg, chief executive of the 2014 Commonwealth Games organising committee.
“We will be working with Edrington from now until Games time on collaborative opportunities to showcase this special product while encouraging those celebrating the Games to do so responsibly.”
Created in 1896, The Famous Grouse is created at Scotland’s The Glenturret Distillery, thought to be the oldest distillery in the country.
The announcement that the whisky will sponsor the Commonwealth Games coincides with the Homecomings Scotland’s Whisky Month, which sees events taking place across Scotland to celebrate Scotland’s national drink.
The Commonwealth Games will be held in Scotland this year on 23 July to 3 August.
It was recently announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be visiting The Glenturret Distillery as part of their tour of Scotland.
