London hotel buys ‘world’s oldest Cognac’

London hotel The Wellesley has purchased what it claims is the world’s oldest bottle of Cognac.

Knightsbridge boutique hotel The Wellesley has bought this bottle of Coutanseaux-1767, what it claims is the “world’s oldest Cognac”

According to The Wellesley, the 70 cl bottle of Coutanseaux 1767, worth approximately £100,000, was discovered in a historic cellar in France by a Cognac collector.

Guests at The Wellesley, based in Knightsbridge, can buy a measure of the Cognac for £7,000.

“Cognac is one of the passions of The Wellesley, we are constantly in search of the finest and most unique vintages in the world to offer to our discerning guests,” said Giuseppe Ruo, director of food and beverage at The Wellesley

“We are very excited to welcome Cognac enthusiasts to experience this outstanding addition to our distinguished collection.”

The Coutanseaux 1767 will be added to The Wellesley’s rare Cognac collection, including expressions from 1789, 1783, and a Boutelleau 1800.

In September last year, The Spirits Business reported that a jeroboam of Remy Martin Louis XIII sold for €32,000 as part of the La Part des Anges charity auction.
