As export partner, Charter Brands will identify distributors to support the global growth plans for the Irish whiskey distillery.

Charter Brands has already secured opportunities in Poland, Colombia, Guatemala, Ukraine, Portugal, Canada and Costa Rica.

France, Bulgaria, South Africa, Australia and the UK will be the focus markets for the Irish whiskey maker in the future.

Dublin Whiskey Distillery (DWD) was established in 1872 and was once one of the ‘six great distillers of Dublin’ with the rest having been closed or acquired by multinationals.

DWD produces the Heritage premium line of Irish whiskeys, as well as its standard range, Dublin’s Own. DWD plans to release a range of single malts in the future.

Matt Ashton-Melia, managing director of Charter Brands, adds: “This collaboration is a result of our shared expertise and focus on high-quality, consumer brands which can satisfy a range of consumption occasions.

“The Dublin Whiskey Distillery Company stood out as a partner due to their dedication to authenticity, unparalleled legacy and clear understanding of consumer need. We’re excited to support DWD’s international expansion and introduce Dublin’s Own Irish Whiskey to new markets.”

Last year, DWD raised more than €400,000 (US$446,887) through a crowdfunding campaign to establish the brand in Europe.

Currently, DWD’s whiskey is produced by a third party, but the company has ambitions to establish a new distillery approximately 3km from the original DWD site as part of a future fundraising round.

Lorcan Rossi, CEO of the Dublin Whiskey Distillery Company, added: “Not only do Charter Brands provide access to key international markets, their proven sales expertise is complemented by their strong brand building capabilities.

“We very much look forward to working with the Charter Brands team, amplifying our brand’s reach and establishing DWD once again as a recognised leader in the Irish whiskey industry.”

Last month, Californian whiskey brand Redwood Empire partnered with distributor Charter Brands to launch its products across continental Europe.
