What will be the busiest day for bars this Christmas?

Pub and bar app Mixr has predicted that 14 December will be the busiest day for the UK on-trade this Christmas season.

Last year, 16 December was the busiest day for pubs and bars, with Mixr venues selling 2.08 million total drinks in one day.

In the whole month of December last year, Mixr discovered 109,849 roasts or festive meals and 3,095,642 shots and bombs were sold across their venues.

In positive news for the sector, the app has seen Christmas bookings surge by 14% compared with December last year.

Mixr also anticipates 21 December to be a busy day for trade, due to the upcoming boxing match between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

With footfall likely to increase in the coming weeks, Mixr and its venues encourage consumers to make bookings at on-trade venues.

Paul Eastwood, general manager of Three Lanterns pub in London’s Leicester Square, said: “My advice to people looking to meet up with friends in a pub this time of year is to always book a space no matter whether you’ll think you’ll need it or not. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself struggling to have enough room to properly catch up and fully enjoy the moment.”

Earlier this month, CGA by NIQ revealed that spirits sales in UK bars, pubs and restaurants were in decline from last year in the lead-up to Christmas, down by 9%.

Last Christmas, on-trade revenue dropped by up to 30%, according to research by the Night Time Industries Association. However, according to data from CGA by NIQ, drinks sales were up by 7% year on year, with beer and cider leading the way.
