Kavalan to open flagship Seoul store
Taiwanese whisky producer Kavalan will open a flagship store in Lotte Duty Free’s shop in Seoul, South Korea.
The company said the move is part of its global efforts to expand sales through Lotte Duty Free channels, including at Singapore Changi Airport, Melbourne Airport in Australia, Guam Airport in the US, and Hanoi Airport in Vietnam.
Kavalan CEO YT Lee commented: “We are keen to invest more here. South Korea is a rapidly growing market for Kavalan, especially in the duty-free sector.
“Across Lotte Duty Free alone sales jumped last year more than 35 times compared to 2022.”
In South Korea, which has become a hotspot for spirits consumption in Asia Pacific, sales of Kavalan soared by 169% last year.
This was led by triple-digit gains in travel retail, with sales also boosted through the appearance of the brand’s Solist Oloroso Sherry in the Park Chan-wook directed film, Decision to Leave.
Details on when the store will open have yet to be announced, but Lee said there are plans for it to sell exclusive expressions.
Kavalan is distributed in Korea by Golden Blue and 12 of its whiskies are available in the region, including Kavalan Classic, Distillery Select and Solist Single Cask Strength.
Lee Seung-guk, division head of Lotte Duty Free, said. “This is great news for our partnership with Kavalan. The Solist PX Sherry Cask, Port Cask, and Vinho Barrique are our bestsellers and we’re looking forward to opening Kavalan’s boutique store and developing new products unique to it.”
