Last chance to enter Giffard cocktail contest
By Lauren BowesEntries for Giffard Liqueurs’ annual West Cup Cocktail Competition will close this weekend (31 March).
This year’s competition – the 27th edition – is themed around the ‘art of balance’.
It is open to mixologists from 18 countries, who will develop a drink that ‘reflects what makes their life as balanced as their cocktail creation’ while showcasing a balance of flavours and techniques.
Coordinated by Mangrove Global, the UK competition will have four regional heats in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, culminating in a national final.
The competition will be judged by a panel of judges including low-and-no expert Camille Vidal, hospitality consultant J Rivera and Mangrove’s Joel Defries.
At the national final, which will take place on 21 May at Dear Darling bar in London’s Mayfair, candidates will be asked to create a cocktail from a mystery basket of Giffard and Mangrove products.
The grand final will take place at the end of September in Angers, France, with the winner bagging a return flight with accommodation for two to discover another cocktail culture.
Earlier this month, Mangrove’s managing director, Nick Gillett, reflected on Diageo’s recent decision to implement minimum order values and how it will affect wholesalers.
