The brand, part of the Marussia Beverages Artisanal Japanese Collection, is available from the Waitrose website and 135 stores nationwide.

135o East Gin is a Japanese gin, named after the East Meridian that crosses Akashi City in the Hyogo prefecture of Japan.

The brand aims to celebrate the time when Eastern and Western cultures began to merge. It does through its choice of botanicals, which include Japanese ingredients yuzu, shisho leaf and ume.

The gin is made with distilled sake spirit and is produced at the Kaikyo distillery in Japan.

It currently retails on the Waitrose website for RRP £32 (US$40) per 700ml bottle.

Last year, spirits producer and distributor Marussia Beverages rebranded its US arm, Niche Import Co, to Marussia Beverages USA.

In other gin news, Cornish gin brand Tarquin’s is set to launch a pink expression.

In June, The Spirits Business will host The Gin Masters 2022 blind-tasting competition. Last year’s competition, held in two instalments, was the biggest tasting in the competition’s history.
