Mermaid steers to win Drinks Trade Regatta
By Miona MadsenIsle of Wight Distillery’s spirits brand Mermaid sailed to first place at this year’s Drinks Trade Regatta yacht race.

Held on June 4-5 for its 20th year, the regatta, which evolved from the Inter Brewery Regatta, was organised by Prometheus Sailing and took place in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
The race was attended by teams from the drinks and hospitality sectors for two days of sailing.
It included a crew dinner at the Royal Ocean Racing Club in Cowes, along with opportunities for networking and fundraising for industry charities, The Drinks Trust and Only A Pavement Away.
The event raised a total of £4,500 (US$6,044).
Competitors raced aboard Prometheus’ fleet of Jeanneau 410 yachts.
Mermaid, Loungers UK and Maverick Drinks formed the winning crew on Prometheus’ Mermaid Spirit. Over four races, the Mermaid team achieved two wins and two second-place finishes to clinch the overall title.
Xavier Baker, co-founder of Mermaid, said: “To win the Drinks Trade Regatta on our home waters is incredibly special. The event brings together so many fantastic people from across the drinks and hospitality industries, while raising valuable funds for The Drinks Trust and Only A Pavement Away.
“We’re proud to have taken the title and grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success.”
Hawksbill Team, which included Matthew Clark and Beds & Bars, raced to the second spot, while Clack & Son Solicitors came third.
Simon Boulding, managing director for Prometheus Sailing, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many members of the drinks industry to this year’s regatta and congratulations to Mermaid on their victory. It was particularly pleasing to work with such a vibrant industry that not only took part in the event, but also helped us raise a meaningful amount of money for charity.”
