Elixir Distillers creates whisky liqueur

Whisky blender Elixir Distillers is moving into liqueurs with the launch of Highland Nectar.

Elixir Distillers took inspiration for Highland Nectar from the Highland region of Scotland

Highland Nectar infuses Scotch whisky with cinnamon, ginger, bitter orange, lemon oil and vanilla.

Inspired by Highland Scotch whisky, the liqueur has aromas of cinnamon-and-golden-syrup biscuits, lemon, cloves and eucalyptus, leading to hints of allspice, candied ginger and orange peel on the palate.

The finish is said to bring powdered cinnamon and mulled chai cider.

Highland Nectar will be available to purchase from November through The Whisky Exchange, followed by select retailers.

Bottled at 35% ABV, Highland Nectar will be priced at RRP £24.95 (US$35) per 500ml bottle.

Pernod Ricard acquired The Whisky Exchange in September. The sale included Whisky.Auction and London Cocktail Week – the latter of which is currently holding a month-long event throughout October.

In other liqueur news, singer Mariah Carey debuted a cream liqueur line in August 2021, called Black Irish. However, the All I Want for Christmas is You singer is embroiled in a legal battle with Darker Still Spirits for the trademark of ‘Black Irish’.

Darker Still Spirits has a whiskey-and-stout spirit drink of the same name, Black Irish, which launched in June 2020. The company said it legally filed the brand name in 2015.
