Diageo Bar Academy and Google have teamed up to help venues improve their online visibility

The Diageo Bar Academy and experts from Google Digital Garage will host the ‘Promoting your Bar Online’ webinar on Tuesday 29 June at 3pm UTC.

From websites to business listings, Google’s digital experts will share guidance on how to increase a venue’s visibility to help guests find your bar online more easily.

Ronan Harris, managing director of Google UK and Ireland, said: ”Local businesses are the lifeblood of our communities. Like millions up and down the country, we want to help small businesses both survive and thrive.

“That’s why in partnership with Diageo Bar Academy, we’ve committed to providing digital training for bar professionals to help people upskill and adapt to operating in the ever-changing current climate. Despite the ongoing uncertainty, we want to show that having an online presence can have a transformative impact on offline businesses.”

A recent study by CGA revealed how Covid-19 has affected how guests plan an evening out. The study found that 44% of consumers are more likely to plan their hospitality trips in more detail than they were pre-pandemic.

Furthermore, it found that 29% of consumers are more likely to pre-book tables for drinks than before the pandemic.

Google said investing in your online presence is a cost-effective way of promoting a venue as many options are free. For example, the tech firm said bars can create or claim a Google My Business listing and manage their online presence across Google, including through its Search and Maps platforms.

In addition, venues can reach consumers who are looking for food and drink venues in their local area.

Google also noted the importance of providing up-to-date information, including the venue’s address, opening hours and contact details.

During the session, participants will be able ask the hosts questions. The masterclass will also provide real-time translation for Spanish and Portuguese speakers.

In addition, participants will receive a downloadable guide to improving online visibility and an official Diageo Bar Academy e-certificate.
