Basil Hayden reintroduces Subtle Smoke Bourbon
Beam Suntory-owned Basil Hayden Bourbon has relaunched its popular Subtle Smoke expression.
The expression initially launched in 2022 and was intended to be a one-time limited release.
Due to popular demand, it has been reintroduced to the US market.
Crafted by eighth-generation distiller Freddie Noe, the Bourbon is made with signature Basil Hayden high-rye mash bill.
The whiskey’s smoky character is achieved through a distinctive barrel-finishing technique, which includes six months in secondary barrels that are toasted, slightly charred and infused with hickory smoke.
The two-phased maturation process imparts ‘mellow notes of smoke, complimented by soft char and light butterscotch for a subtly smoky, yet approachable taste profile’.
The expression can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks or mixed in an aperitif cocktail, such as Brass Nail.
Subtle Smoke is released in 750ml bottles with an ABV of 40% (80 proof) and a suggested retail price of €40 (US$49.99).
The lightly smoky Bourbon will be available at selected wine and spirits retailers across the US for an unspecified limited time.
Basil Hayden Bourbon is one of many whiskey brands produced at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky.
In 2023, Jim Beam Bourbon was listed as the best-selling whiskey brand in the world.
