Seven Tails and top bartenders raise funds for Refuge

Seven Tails Distillers has teamed up with seven UK bartenders to raise money for Refuge Against Domestic Violence and help those at risk of abuse during the covid-19 lockdown.

The Sazerac twist by Max Venning of Three Sheets

Seven Tails has enlisted the help of Joe Schofield, Anna Sebastian, Max Venning, Maxim Schulte, Jo Last, Erik Lorincz and Chris Moore to create a twist on the Sazerac cocktail using ingredients found in their homes.

The finished drinks, comprising six 700ml bottles, will be sold through independent London retailer Top Cuvée with a reserve price of £600 (US$749) for the full set.

Schofield, of Manchester-based Schofields Bar, used Earl Grey and passionfruit for his twist, while Venning, of London’s Three Sheets, used raspberries. Last, of The Beaufort Bar at The Savoy hotel in London, incorporated banana and Champagne, while Artesian’s Sebastian turned to Sauternes and pear. Lorincz, owner of London’s Kwānt, used fresh fennel instead of absinthe, and Moore turned his attention to ground coffee.

All proceeds will be donated to Refuge Against Domestic Violence and the sale is open to anyone over the UK legal drinking age of 18.

Seven Tails Distillers co-founder and chief operating officer Joel Fraser chose the charity as 1.6 million women experienced domestic abuse in the UK in 2019.

Sandra Horley CBE, chief executive of national domestic abuse charity Refuge, said: “While in lockdown or self-isolation, women and children are likely to be spending concentrated periods of time with perpetrators, potentially escalating the threat of domestic abuse and further restricting their freedom.

“In the current climate, it is certainly more challenging for women suffering abuse. Lines of communication could be severely limited if women are unable to leave their home.”

The Seven Tails Twist sale will launch on 21 April via topcuvee.com/shop.
