Entrepreneur plans Britain’s ‘first’ gin museum
By Nicola CarruthersThe creator of gin brand Steampunk has launched a crowdfunding campaign to open what is thought to be Britain’s first gin museum in Newcastle.
The creator of Steampunk gin is aiming to raise £20,000 to open the National Gin Museum
Founder Charlie Gibbs is aiming to raise £20,000 on Crowdfunder by 1 March to go towards the opening of the National Gin Museum.
He chose to build the museum in Newcastle because there are five gin producers within 20 miles of Newcastle including Poetic License, Newcastle Gin and Durham gin, making it a “gin hot spot”.
The museum will feature exhibits on the history of gin and the modern gin renaissance, along with a gift shop.
Gibbs intends to develop links with local colleges to source employees who are studying tourism, retail and hospitality.
Donors will get rewards in the form of season passes and bottles of gin.
Last month, Portobello Road Gin opened what’s thought to be the world’s first dedicated gin hotel as part of its multi-million pound distillery complex in London.
