Glenfiddich to launch ‘The Original’ at Goodwood
This Friday (11 September) Glenfiddich will launch The Original at the Goodwood Revival, an expression inspired by the brand’s 1963 Glenfiddich Straight Malt.
Glenfiddich The Original will launch later this week at the Goodwood Revival
“Straight malt” was a term used to describe single malt, and Glenfiddich’s 1963 release was said to be one of the first to challenge the domination of blended whisky.
The brand’s malt master, Brian Kinsman, recreated the liquid by nosing and tasting the original 1963 sample and following a recipe from the brand’s archives.
“Glenfiddich has an unrivalled collection of rare and aged single malts from which we can draw on to create innovative whiskies. Using this collection we were able to replicate the original Glenfiddich Straight Malt,” Kinsman said.
“Glenfiddich The Original is a true taste of history. It’s an honour to unveil this exclusive whisky which is light and fruity with hints of sherry spice from the European oak sherry butts that were predominantly used in the 1960s.”
Peter Gordon, Glenfiddich company director added: “Glenfiddich The Original is testament to the family’s vision and independence, which has allowed us to continuously strive to innovate and create superior whiskies. Glenfiddich The Original is a prime example of this and a tribute to my father, Sandy, and Uncle Charles’ achievement of introducing our single malt Scotch to the world.”
The bottle has been designed to reflect the heritage of the expression. The triangular bottle sits within a black presentation box embossed with gold.
A booklet detailing the history of the brand and its liquid is included within the pack.
Glenfiddich The Original is available from September with an RRP of £85 for a 70 cl bottle.
Earlier this month, William Grant & Sons announced it has completed a packaging refresh for the Glenfiddich core range.
