Sullivans Cove releases most expensive expression to date
By Kristiane SherryThe Tasmanian whisky distillery has launched Sullivans Cove Manifesto, its most expensive expression ever at AU$10,000 (£4,670).
Just two Sullivans Cove Manifesto decanters have been made available.Made from highly awarded French oak casks – including HH0509, HH0525 and HH0390 – Sullivans Cove Manifesto is a non-chill filtered single malt bottled at 47.9%. Just two 1,550ml decanters have been made available.
Each decanter was hand-blown by Tasmanian glass sculptors Anne Clifton and Peter Bowles. Weighing in at 6kg, each comes with its own blown glass “spirit thief”, a hand moulded “travel” stopper made from Tasmanian Huon pine and Portuguese cork, and a matching glass stopper for everyday use.
The decanter, stoppers and spirit thief are all housed in a hand-made, doeskin-lined Huon pine case. A small sample bottle accompanies the case “should the purchase be deemed an investment”, a distillery statement reads.
“Sullivans Cove and Tasmanian whisky in general have come a very long way and we wanted to create something really special that captures this,” said Sullivans Cove malt master, Bert Cason.
“Using whisky from our top awarded casks plus some of our finest unreleased casks, we’ve created a malt that stands head and shoulders above the rest and promises the connoisseur the treat of a lifetime, not to mention a slice of whisky history.”
The hand-made Manifesto case contains a “spirit thief”, a travel stopper and an everyday stopper. One decanter is to be sold from the distillery cellar door or the brand’s website, while the other is available from Dan Murphy’s Double Bay store.
In 2014, Sullivans Cove restricted exports of its core French Oak expression as domestic demand for the whisky soared.
