Sullivan’s Cove restricts French oak exports
Tasmanian whisky Sullivan’s Cove is to start limiting exports of its French Oak expression as domestic demand is soaring.
Exports of Sullivan’s Cove French Oak are to be restricted
To maintain availability for the next five years, Sullivan’s Cove will restrict the amount of French Oak leaving the country, reserving the bulk of its supply for Australians only.
The distillery claims sales have trebled in the last three years, 90% of which are to Australian consumers, up from 40% in 2010.
It attributes recent demand for French Oak to the receipt of The Spirits Business’ World Whisky Grand Master 2012 award, among others.
Patrick Maguire, chief distiller of Sullivan’s Cove, one of eight distilleries in Tasmania, said: “The industry has come a very long way over the past few years and this is exactly the situation that we hoped we would be in one day, we just didn’t expect it to happen this soon.
“It is a great problem to have and we are making all efforts to ensure that sufficient stock remains available for our Australian customers.”
Sullivans Cove is available in more than 12 countries, including the US, France, Holland, Canada, Spain, Japan, the UK, New Caledonia, Singapore and Dubai.
