Russian Standard joins world’s most expensive domains

Russian Standard Vodka’s website is named as one of the most expensive domain names purchased in the last 25 yearsAccording to Sedo, Russian Standard – the largest wine and spirits group in Central and Eastern Europe – purchased the vodka.com domain to showcase its portfolio of vodka for US$3 million.
The domain, which ranks as the ninth most expensive purchase, leads web surfers through to the group’s russianstandardvodka.com website.
At the top of the most expensive domain list is sex.com, which sold for US$13, while other domains to feature on the list include diamond.com, which sold for US$7.5m, pizza.com, which sold for US$2.6m, and dating.com, which sold for US£1.75m.
Russian Standard’s portfolio includes the flagship Russian Standard Vodka, Green Mark, Parliament, Zhuravli, and Zubrówka.
The group has invested heavily in online media in recent years, announcing a digital media campaign – described as its “most ambitious and complicated” to date – starring film-maker Jason Silva in November 2013.
