Rémy Martin appoints new CEO

Rémy Martin has announced the appointment of its new CEO following the surprise departure of Patrick Piana last week.

Eric Vallat has been appointed as the new CEO of Rémy Martin

It was revealed on Thursday 23 January that Piana, CEO of Rémy Martin Cognac house, would be leaving his post just 20 days after the resignation of Frédéric Pflanz, CEO of parent company Rémy Cointreau.

A spokesperson for the company said that Piana had left the company in order to “pursue new horizons”, while Pflanz, who had only been in the role of CEO for three months, was said to have resigned for “personal reasons”.

Rémy Cointreau has today announced the appointment of Eric Vallat as the CEO of Rémy Martin.

Vallat had previously held roles as an investment banker, managing director for Louis Vuitton in Europe, and chairman and representative director for Christian Dior in Japan.

Most recently, Vallat has acted as chairman of Bonpoint and managing director of J.M. Weston.

A statement released by Rémy Cointreau said that Vallat would “continue the group’s policy of adding value and maintaining the reputation for quality of the Rémy Martin and Louis XIII brand which is consistent with evolving worldwide consumption patterns”.

Rémy Cointreau’s chairman François Hériard Dubreuil has assumed the role of CEO of the drinks group until a permanent replacement for Pflanz has been appointed.

The news of Piana’s departure comes just days after Rémy Cointreau announced an 18.3% decline in organic sales for Rémy Martin, blaming China’s crackdown on luxury spending.
