Cremaura cream liqueur adopts paper bottles
By Miona MadsenPlant-based Tequila cream liqueur brand Cremaura has partnered with sustainable packaging company Frugalpac to relaunch its vegan liqueurs.

First launched in late 2023, Cremaura offers a plant-based twist on traditional cream liqueurs with its Tequila-based Coffee Caramel and Rose flavours.
Dav Bal, a former PwC consultant and founder of Cremaura, said: “The idea for Cremaura was born after a night out with friends. Someone ordered a round of Tequila cream liqueurs, and two or three people in the group couldn’t drink them; some were lactose intolerant, and one was vegan. That moment stuck with me.
“Coming from a corporate background, I saw a clear gap in the market for a plant-based, dairy-free alternative to popular cream liqueurs, something inclusive, premium, and better for the planet.”
Cremaura initially launched its products in fully recyclable glass bottles, using natural corks, paper labels, and biodegradable packaging.
Continuing its innovative approach, Cremaura is relaunching in Frugalpac’s Frugal bottles, described as the world’s first commercially available paper bottles for wine and spirits, made from 94% recycled paperboard.
The new bottles are said to have a carbon footprint up to six times lower than that of glass bottles and weigh just a fifth as much as a traditional bottle.
Bal commented on the brand’s shift into paper bottles: “Sustainability has been at the heart of Cremaura from day one. Switching to the Frugal bottle not only reduces our environmental impact but also supports our growing global reach. It’s lighter, greener, and helps us stand out visually and ethically.”
Malcolm Waugh, CEO of Frugalpac, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Cremaura to the paper bottle revolution. They’re a brilliant example of how forward-thinking brands can offer incredible quality without compromising the planet.
“It’s also a great feature to appeal to drinkers. Recent research from Shorr revealed that 90% of consumers surveyed said they’d be more likely to purchase from brands that utilise sustainable packaging. With 63 brands already using the Frugal bottle for wine and spirits in 27 countries around the world, we call on other drinks brands – large and small – to follow Cremaura’s lead and rethink how they bottle their drinks.”
Cremaura Coffee Caramel and Rose are now available in their new packaging, retailing for £25 (US$33) at 20% ABV in 700ml paper bottles.
