Don Q launches 150th anniversary rums

Spirit Cartel has launched two Don Q aged expressions, La Reserva de la Familia Serrallés and the Signature Release Single Barrel, on the UK market to celebrate the brand’s 150th anniversary.

Released more widely earlier this year, the Signature Release Single Barrel is the first single-barrel expression to be released by Don Q and is part of a limited edition series, with only 6,000 bottles produced.

Aged in American white oak barrels for 10 years, the Signature Release Single Barrel is described as offering “rich and buttery notes that warm the palate”, and is at an RRP of £40.

The Reserva de la Familia Serrallés, described as Don Q’s most “elite” rum to date, also launched last year and is now available in the UK.

Bottled at 40% abv, it has been hand-selected by sixth-generation distiller, Roberto Serrallés, and is a blend of 20-year-old rums from its oldest barrels.

In keeping with the company’s birthdate, only 1,865 bottles have been produced and are available with an RRP of £1,865.

The expression is said to have a “delicious smoothness on the palate and the elegance and complexity of a venerable Cognac”, while on the nose it has notes of “vanilla, oak, a touch of burnt wood and a hint of molasses.”

La Reserva de la Familia Serrallés and The Signature Release Single Barrel are available from specialist retailers including The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt.
