Terroirs Distillers buys Connacht Distillery
Tullibardine owner Terroirs Distillers has acquired Irish whiskey maker The Connacht Distillery for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 2013, The Connacht Distillery is located in Ballina, County Mayo, on the northwest coast of Ireland.
The Connacht Distillery debuted its flagship single malt in August 2021, said to be the first whiskey distilled in County Mayo in more than 150 years.
Connacht finished construction on its €10 million (US$11.7m) distillery in Ballina in 2015 and began laying down whiskey in 2016 with the goal of producing a single malt.
Thomas Jensen, CEO of The Connacht Distillery, said: “We are thrilled to hand over the mantle of Connacht Distillery to Terroirs, a family-owned concern that shares our values and passion for high-quality spirits.
“It has been a pleasure to bring back to the west of Ireland the production of exceptional Irish whiskey.”
Terroirs Distillers said the deal would strengthen its presence in the single malt whiskey category, and demonstrates its focus on developing premium spirits brands.
Raoul Simon, managing director of Terroirs Distillers, added: “We are delighted by the acquisition of the Connacht Distillery, which complements perfectly our current branded portfolio, with a similar DNA and a great potential for growth. We look forward to increasing our knowledge of the category, in a country for which we have a special attachment.”
Terroirs Distillers manages the spirits brands and distilleries of family-owned Picard Vins & Spiritueux (PVS), which includes Highland single malts Tullibardine, Highland Queen and Muirhead’s blended Scotch, and Louis Royer Cognac.
Tullibardine recently welcomed a 18-year-old single malt to its Signature collection.
