Longmorn rounds off luxury range with 23yo

Chivas Brothers-owned single malt brand Longmorn completed its range of ‘luxury’ Scotch whiskies with two new releases – a 23-year-old and a replacement of its 16-year-old bottling.

New Longmorn 16 Year Old

Longmorn 23 Year Old is the final addition to the distillery’s luxury offering, and been aged in traditional oak casks. The whisky is also non-chill-filtered and bottled at 48 abv%.

Given tasting notes include “ripe pear and soft red apples” with a long, smooth finish.

The current Longmorn 16 Year Old liquid is to be replaced with a new 16-year-old single malt created using a ‘higher proportion’ of rare first-fill American oak casks, alongside whisky matured in ex-Sherry casks and European oak casks.

The new liquid – also non-chill-filtered and bottled at 48 abv% – is said to have a flavour profile of “ripe orchard fruits, smooth milk chocolate and increased smooth, vanilla notes”.

Trevor Buckley, Longmorn master distiller, said: “Longmorn 16 Year Old has long been a firm favourite among Scotch whisky connoisseurs, but we wanted to make it even more luxurious than it was before and the Longmorn team has certainly achieved this.

“Similarly, Longmorn 23 Year Old offers the pinnacle presentation of the inimitable Longmorn spirit and provides the ultimate luxury Scotch whisky experience.”

The new expressions follow the launch of Longmorn The Distiller’s Choice, a no-age-statement released in January 2016.

Longmorn 23 Year Old

John Duff established Longmorn in 1894 in Speyside and built a railway station adjacent to the distillery to bring in supplies and enable the swift export of the whisky.

Miriam Eceolaza, Longmorn brand director at Chivas Brothers, added: “We are excited to unveil the newly complete Longmorn range to Scotch whisky aficionados around the world as it represents the ultimate luxury Scotch whisky experience from the distillery.

“Building on the unmistakable characteristics of excellence laid down by John Duff, the new Longmorn family has pushed the boundaries of luxury and quality and offers a new journey of discovery for discerning drinkers through the prestige whisky category – it’s certainly Longmorn’s time to shine.”

Longmorn 16 Year Old will launch in the UK in January 2017 before being rolled out globally at a RRP of US$189 per 750ml bottle.

Longmorn 23 Year Old is available at a RRP of US$1,087 per 750ml bottle.
