Clear Creek Distillery founder dies
The founder of Oregon-based spirits producer Clear Creek Distillery, Steve McCarthy, has died.
The news was shared by the American Distilling Institute (ADI).
“We share with great sadness that the founder of Clear Creek Distillery, Steve McCarthy, has passed,” ADI wrote in a Facebook post.
“Steve’s contribution to the industry and ADI is hard to overstate. His many contributions will forever be appreciated.”
McCarthy died on 2 January, aged 79 years old. He established Clear Creek Distillery in 1985.
The distillery is based in Hood River, Oregon, in the US, and today offers a portfolio of brandies, liqueurs, grappa and vodka.
The Facebook post was accompanied by a quote from Clear Creek Distillery. The statement read: “He was a giant among men, an adventurer, conservationist, community leader, father, mentor, and friend.
“We cannot begin to express our gratitude for having the opportunity to know and work for him, for what he has done for us personally and professionally, or how deeply we feel this loss.”
In December last year, Juanita Duggan, who served as the president and CEO of Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) between 1998 to 2006, died.
