Highclere Castle Spirits adds to gin portfolio

The owners of Highclere Castle, the setting of period drama Downton Abbey, have added a limited edition expression to their namesake gin series.

Only 2,000 cases of the Limited Edition Barrel Aged Gin are available

Highclere Castle Spirits was formed in 2017 by the current owner of Highclere Castle, the eighth Earl of Carnarvon, and Adam von Gootkin.

The brand went on to create Highclere Castle Gin using botanicals grown on the estate, which is the filming location for ITV historical drama series Downton Abbey.

Highclere Castle Spirits’ latest release commemorates this year’s 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb by Howard Carter and the fifth Earl of Carnarvon.

Lord Carnarvon left Highclere Castle for Egypt in 1907 and famously discovered King Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922.

The Barrel Aged Gin will launch on Black Friday (25 November), and only 2,000 cases are available at an RRP of US$99 per bottle.

The liquid is barrel-aged in French Armagnac casks, as well as Scotch and American whiskey barrels.

Notes of honey, smoke, and citrus are presented on the palate.

Highclere Castle Gin featured in our round-up ten award-winning spirits for spring. The bottling was lauded by one judge in the Spring blind tasting for its “fruity nose with berries, a little bit of sweetness, and good texture”.
