‘Holocaust’ cocktail in Belarus causes uproar

A popular bar in Belarus has been shunned by patrons for adding inappropriate “Holocaust” cocktail to its menu.

The owner of the pub fired the bartender responsible before removing the drink from the menu

The owner of The Red Pub in Gomel fired the bartender responsible for creating the beverage, which consisted of liqueurs and watermelon syrup, before quickly removing it from the menu.

Around 41,000 Jewish people lived in the area before World War II which saw tens of thousands murdered there.

There is now a Jewish community consisting of around 2,000 people living in Gomel.

“I was shocked, how can someone think of a name like this?” one of the patrons at the bar said, according to YNet News.

“Most of the Jews of Belarus were murdered in the Holocaust. Those who make jokes about it, their pub needs to be closed,” added Alex Tenzer, an expert on Russia media whose family members survived the Holocaust.

Earlier this month, the historic Oxford Union debating society condemned itself as “institutionally racist” for offering a cocktail called “Colonial Comeback” at a recent event.
