Calvados names Nouvelle Vogue competition winners
By Amy HopkinsFrench apple brandy Calvados has named the category winners of its international cocktail competition Nouvelle Vogue, held in Normandy.
Calavados has crowned the winners of its Nouvelle Vogue international cocktail competitionAround 100 bartenders representing 15 different countries attended the competition and were tasked with creating a cocktail inspired by movie scenes which were filmed at different Normandy landmarks.
Finnish bartender Markus Sillanpää, of E.Ekblom bar, was awarded the International Professional Bartender Trophy, while Poland’s Kamil Strzeszewski was given the International Bartending Students Trophy, and Latvia’s Sandris Metuzals, of FHM Magazine, was awarded the International Journalists Trophy.
Sillanpää is planning to submit his winning cocktail, called Mixed Feelings, into the IBA’s World Cocktail Championship.
Great Britain’s Amelia Povey, a UKBG student who attends Westminster Kingsway Catering College, was awarded second prize in the International Bartending Students round.
Povey said of her Coco Before Chanel inspired cocktail, called Apple of My Eye: ”I wanted to create a drink that was simple but stylish. Calvados is a delicious and sophisticated spirit and it was important for me to keep that aspect.
“I aslo wanted to bring an element of fun in order to appeal to a new generation of cocktail drinkers, and therefore create a true cocktail that will stand the test of time, Like Coco Chanel.”
