Madrid’s Santamanía releases oak aged gin

Santamanía – which claims to be the first micro-distillery opened in Madrid – has released an aged version of its inaugural London dry gin.

Santamania Reserva is a London dry style of gin aged in French oak casks for five months

While the distillery’s staple gin is left to rest for one month before bottling, its new Santamanía Reserva is aged for five months in French oak casks.

The distillery claims the new variant has met the challenge retaining its core juniper notes despite the influence of oak.

Launched in August this year, Santamanía London Dry Gin is a grape-based gin which is distilled in small batches of no more than 330 bottles at a time.

Upon its launch, Javier Domínguez, one of the three founders and current managing director of the distillery, said:  “Gin is so huge in Spain and in particular Madrid, so it was our dream to set up a craft distillery to produce the best Spanish gin possible.

“As a craft distillery we cannot expect to be on every supermarket’s shelves, but we will try to reach as many gin lovers as possible.”

Only 980 bottles of Santamanía Reserva (41% abv) are now available at an RRP of €43.00.
