Desi Daru shines at Tamarind of Mayfair terrace

British-Indian brand Desi Daru has secured a listing at Tamarind of Mayfair in London for its Alphonso Mango vodka.

The brand’s mango vodka is featured as the main ingredient in three signature cocktails on the Terrace at Tamarind of Mayfair.

Tamarind is the capital’s first Indian restaurant to receive a Michelin star.

Desi Vesper combines the English winter wheat-based mango vodka with lime leaf-infused Sapling gin, Cocchi Americano, and manzanilla Sherry. The result is a crisp, aromatic, and dry summer serve.

The Summer Negroni pairs the spirits with Suze, peach, Cocchi Americano Rosa, and mandarin bitters, delivering a bittersweet, sunlit take on the classic.

Mango Sling crowns the Desi Daru’s signature serves by mixing Alphonso Mango Vodka, elderflower, verjus, bitters, raspberry, and orange blossom soda. The easy-drinking long drink is described as a bright and fragrant cocktail.

For those looking to relax at the terrace without alcohol, Alcohol-Free Mango Sling is also available.

“We wanted the Terrace list to feel like summer while staying true to Tamarind’s Indian roots, and Desi Daru gave us the perfect thread to run through it,” said Carole Brown, head of bars at Tamarind of Mayfair.

“Its alphonso mango character is so true, and so versatile, that we were able to build three completely different drinks around it: a crisp Desi Vesper, a bittersweet Summer Negroni and a bright, fragrant Mango Sling, each one letting the vodka lead. It’s a natural fit for the way we cook and drink at Tamarind, and our guests have taken to it beautifully.”

Now open, the Tamarind terrace offers pairing cocktails and small plates with the restaurant’s Indian cuisine.

Mohit Singh, co-founder of Desi Daru, added: “To be poured on the Terrace at Tamarind means a great deal to us. This is the restaurant that first showed London how special Indian fine dining could be, so for our Alphonso Mango to sit at the heart of three cocktails here feels like a real full-circle moment.

“Carole and her team have created serves with genuine range and craft. Inspired in India, born in Britain, and very much at home in Mayfair.”

Husband-and-wife duo Singh and Aneet Kau founded the certified B-Corp Desi Daru to reflect their dual heritage. The brand’s Alphonso Mango Vodka is made with sun-ripened mangoes from Ratnagiri.

The brand’s previous partnerships in London’s on-trade this year have included featured cocktails at Kricket, Bandra Bhai, Vesper Bar, Steak and Company, and As Above, So Below.

Last year, Desi Daru landed its first listing in UK supermarkets, making its way into 140 Waitrose stores.
