Frey Ranch ballots northern Nevada’s ‘oldest’ Bourbon
By Miona MadsenNevada’s Frey Ranch Distillery has released its first batch of 10-year-old Bourbon, which is available exclusively through a ballot.

Colby and Ashley Frey founded Frey Ranch Distillery in Fallon, Nevada, in 2006.
The 10-year-old Bourbon is not only the distillery’s oldest age-statement expression to date, but it also claims to be the ‘oldest’ whiskey ever distilled and aged in the Nevada High Desert, where summer temperatures can reach more than 38°C.
Crafted using the same mashbill as the brand’s Four Grain Bourbon, the recipe consists of 66.6% non-GMO corn, 11.4% Canadian winter rye, 10% soft winter wheat, and 12% malted two-row barley.
Multiple batches of Frey Ranch 10-Year-Old Bourbon were distilled from January 2015 to April 2016 and aged in barrels with level-four char and level-three char heads.
Bottled at 51% ABV, the whiskey presents aromas of caramelised sugar, milk chocolate, and chocolate orange candy. The palate reveals notes of milk chocolate, cereal, and baking spices, with honey, biscotti, and a lingering oak finish.
Colby Frey, ‘whiskey farmer’ and co-founder of Frey Ranch Distillery, said: “Craft distilleries producing their own genuine 10-year-old whiskeys are still a rarity in this industry, making this milestone a meaningful achievement for our entire team.
“But age statements aside, every bottle of Frey Ranch Whiskey begins where it always has – with the high-quality grains we grow and harvest ourselves on the farm. When our fans invest in a bottle of Frey Ranch Whiskey, they’re investing in farmers.”
A minimum of 500 bottles of the inaugural release of the 10-year-old Bourbon will be available exclusively through the distillery’s online whiskey shop for US$99.00 via an online lottery.
Managed by EQL, the lottery will open on Monday 15 June at 10am PST and will continue until midnight on 22 June. Winners will be announced on 23 June.
The release will also be available at the Frey Ranch Tasting Room in Fallon starting 13 June.
Future batches will be sold at bars and retail locations in select markets across the US.
