Ex-Speciality Brands execs form drinks agency
Jon Lister and Phil Nickson, former employees of Speciality Brands and Elixir Distillers, have launched a UK-based drinks agency called Clear Cut.

The new agency offers a brand-focused alternative to traditional distribution for ‘ambitious’ drinks producers.
Clear Cut provides services designed to enhance brand visibility, secure broader distribution, and foster lasting brand loyalty through smarter, more transparent partnerships.
Both founders have previously worked for years at Speciality Brands and Elixir Distillers. Lister also has experience with brand consultancy Fluid Movement, while Nickson is recognised for his work with UK distributor Identity Drinks and Nc’nean Distillery.
Clear Cut leverages the founders’ combined expertise to specialise in commercial strategy, brand advocacy, and event management.
The agency connects drinks brands with trade, media, and consumers using tailored, results-driven strategies, as well as greater focus, commercial support, and measurable results for brand owners.
Lister and Nickson have more than 40 years of combined experience, most of which has been spent working together in spirits, hospitality, and global brand development.
Nickson commented: “Too often, great brands get lost in crowded distributor portfolios or locked into inflexible commercial structures. We built Clear Cut to give founders direct access to experienced commercial and advocacy leadership, and a clearer path to sustainable growth.”
Clear Cut follows a curated, one-brand-per-category model to ensure dedicated attention, clear market positioning, and transparent communication with each partner.
Lister added: “Our role is to act as an extension of our clients’ teams. In a challenging and competitive market, brands don’t need more layers – they need sharper strategy, stronger trade relationships, and advocacy that actually converts into sales.”
The agency officially launched on 2 March with vermouth and liqueur producer The Aperitivo Co.
Rich Tring, co-founder of The Aperitivo Co, commented on the partnership: “Clear Cut feels like a natural fit for us. I’ve known Jon and Phil for years, across different roles in the industry, and I’ve seen firsthand how they work. They care about the detail, they understand the trade, and they know how to build brands properly.
“As we grow The Aperitivo Co in the UK, it was important to partner with people who share that long-term mindset. I’m so excited to have them alongside us for the next chapter.”
