Cedar Ridge debuts Double Barrel Rye
Iowa-based independent distillery Cedar Ridge has launched a limited edition Double Barrel Rye, alongside its annual Double Barrel Bourbon.
Both releases were created by the Cedar Ridge’s master distiller, Murphy Quint, and finished in new American oak casks.
Quint commented: “This is one of the most anticipated releases we work on each year. Both releases show off our Iowa whiskeys in a unique way and shine the spotlight on our finishing technique.”
The annual Bourbon release has a mashbill of 74% corn, 14% rye, and 12% malted barley. It saw Murphy and his team transfer the distillery’s flagship Iowa Bourbon into a second, new American oak barrel.
On the palate, it is said to present notes of pineapple, grapefruit, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
The new limited edition rye whiskey, meanwhile, is made with a mashbill of 85% rye, 12% corn, and 3% malted barley.
As with the Bourbon’s process, the team poured the distillery’s Straight Rye Whiskey into a second, new American oak barrel. They noted the the freshly charred oak staves enhanced the rye’s ‘already bold qualities’.
Both small batch releases are offered at 52.5% ABV, with a suggested retail price of US$59.99.
The Double Barrel Bourbon and Double Barrel Rye are now available nationwide at retailers in the US, as well as at the distillery and its online store.
