Sazerac acquires Western Son Vodka

Svedka owner Sazerac has purchased Texas-based Western Son Vodka and Distillery for an undisclosed sum.

Earlier this year, the firm completed its acquisition of Svedka Vodka from Constellation Brands for an undisclosed sum.

It also acquired ready-to-drink brand BuzzBallz from its founder, Merrilee Kick, in 2024.

Western Son is a small batch spirits company based in Pilot Point, Texas. The brand was founded in 2011 and produces a range of unflavoured and flavoured vodkas, including blueberry, lemon and prickly pear. Its portfolio also includes a gin.

“We are excited to bring Western Son to Sazerac,” said Jake Wenz, CEO of Sazerac. “The company has created a strong brand and it provides us an opportunity to continue to augment our portfolio, while also adding additional production capacity and capabilities to our network.”

Alongside BuzzBallz and Svedka, Western Son joins a portfolio including Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Eagle Rare and Fireball Cinnamon Whisky. Its vodka portfolio features brands such as Wheatley Vodka, HDW Clix, Platinum and Tenure Vodka.

Sazerac is currently embroiled in a lawsuit concerning Fireball and Parrot Bay Rum. The firm is accused of misleading consumers with malt-based products, which have a lower ABV than their distilled counterparts.

The acquisition comes a week after Tito’s Handmade Vodka purchased its first brand, fellow Texas-based producer Lalo Tequila.
