NYC bar Indn offers butter chicken cocktail

A small plates restaurant and cocktail bar named Indn has opened in New York City’s NoMad district.

Indn offers a range of cocktails inspired by the ‘bold spices and rich flavours’ of Indian cuisine, with each drink paired with ‘authentic’ street food.

Husband-and-wife team Simran ‘Sim’ Bakshi and Kanika Vij are behind the venture, with Bakshi developing the drinks programme.

The cocktail menu includes the Butterface, a drink designed to resemble the flavour of butter chicken. The clarified serve features mezcal, Empirical Ayuuk, fenugreek, garam masala and lemon.

Meanwhile, Paneer Panic is a play on saag paneer, blending Bombay Sapphire, Empirical Cilantro, saag, turmeric, and lime. The cocktail is garnished with a cube of paneer for a ‘playful’ finish.

Other cocktails include How Can She Slap?! – a tropical mix of Johnnie Walker Black, Bacardi Ocho, mango, ginger, and lemon – and the Chaat Margarita, a fusion of gin, cold-distilled with spinach for a clarified green hue, and Ocho Tequila, as well as ‘bright, tangy’ notes of yoghurt, coriander and tamarind.

The food menu revolves around ‘chakhna’, a type of food that pairs well with alcohol. Highlights include seekh kebab, keema pao and palak chaat. Bigger plates are also on offer, such as the bhuna mutton and Yakhni pulao.

The interiors blend minimalism with ‘authentic Indian character’. Many details, including the custom tables and barstools, as well as silverware and plates, have been imported from India.

The space opens through oversized, garage-style doors, with a bar framed by twin arches and set against a forest-inspired wallpaper.
